Here’s how you can grow a tree inside the house

Plants are wonderful organisms that not only help us breathe fresh air but also can reduce our anxiety and pain levels. These advantages are enough to fill our home with them. But in case if you wanted a large plant, probably a tree, to be in the center of your home, would you be able to grow a tree directly from the floor of your house? To some people, it would be a difficult task or almost impossible thing, but it turns out that it is entirely possible. According to Kristin Monji, a certified arborist and horticulturist, growing a tree is possible, and it takes some work and a unique set up. This post will discuss how you can grow a tree inside the house easily.

Ensure drainage

If you want to grow a large plant or a tree inside the house, Kristin says, the essential thing that you will need is drainage set up to ensure proper drainage. Below the layer of soil, there has to be at least several inches of some kind of drainage material like clay pebbles. This whole setup prevents tree roots from being completely saturated when it’s already watered.

Choose your tree

Sunlight is food for the plants, so you need to identify what type of tree would be compatible with your home according to the natural light. In case you have east-facing or south-facing windows, your room gets the right amount of natural light. So, any sort of ficus trees will be good to go with your home setup.

Tree’s age

After identifying the type of tree that is suitable for your home, the next step is to know how old it should be. According to Kristin, a tree that is less than ten years old would be ideal for your home.

Right soil

You need to use indoor mix soil since your tree won’t get exposed to rain and other natural water sources outside. You can’t use the garden soil because it won’t be able to hold the moisture for a more extended period. Make sure you use a well-balanced potting mix soil that is capable of holding the moisture for longer.
